Tonight I wanted to work on music and just could not figure out how to set up my M-Audio and condensor mic and get everything working right. Instead of getting frusterated, I’m just going to be patient and have a pro help me get my home studio set up. Sometimes I just want to figure everything out on my own, but it’s okay that I don’t know everything
I’m so inspired to work on the jazz set! That’s all that I want to focus on. B.Sue sings jazz!!!
Today has been a lovely relaxing Sunday. Although the sun has set early, inside is full of sunshine and inspiration.
Tonight I am inspired to get the band to play nothing but the jazz classics. Jazz is one of my most influential genres of music with one of my heros being Bix Beiderbecke. I once memorized how to play his solo in “Singin’ the Blues” on my clarinet and played it at his grave in Davenport, Iowa. Taking jazz class with Ron Miles definitely had a huge impact on my love of the music and it has seeped into my own music in some small way.
But now I want to make it a much bigger way by having a set and even recording “B.Sue plays the classics, a night of jazz.”
I’d love to perform:
-All of me
-The Devil in the deep blue sea
-That old black magic
-My future just passed
And then some 1950′s jazz/ pop / doo wop - Teach me tonight
- To know him is to love him
- I’m want to sit right down and write myself a letter
-Teach me tonight
2 songs that inspired me on the way back from the Avalanche hockey game tonight….
Harry Connick Jr’s version of All of me. I love the trombone and trumpet and Harry’s voice. Timeless.
and this rendition of Devil in the deep blue sea by the Belleville Outfit (whom I’ve never heard of but love their cover of this song).
I am super inspired right now. Going to make it happen.
Tonight I’m wearing my favorite party dress that was custom designed for me by Maggie Burns and I’m going to wear my unicorn ears and horn and perform at Yelp’s Yelpapalooza Monster Mash-Up! I’m excited! Yelp is such a great way to learn about places and to share your experiences and reviews. I’m a fan. [...]
I’m such a big fan of music from the 1940′s and 50′s. When I was listening to Pandora, this song came up and it reminded me how this era in simplicity of music is just so beautiful. There is so much soul. I also feel like this style of music is in my tone as [...]
This weekend, I spent a lot of time organizing our home and spending time in my music zone. As I was organizing all of my instruments, it dawned on me that I’ve really been neglecting music making! I seem to go in spurts with making music and I suppose that maybe life has been a [...]
I remember being 10 or 11 and I was grounded and not allowed to go to Skate City for the school party. I was furious. That night, my dad would play his old 45′s for me while I skated around and around and around our basement. It was better than any skate party at Skate [...]
B.Sue Excerpt By Tom Murphy Sat., Sep. 10 2011 at 12:47 PM Before B. Sue played its set proper, Brandi Shigley, wearing a marching band hat with a large, red “B” on the front, told us that she wanted to make sure everything was in key. She then blew on a small harmonica and hit [...]
By Stephanie March Fri., Sep. 9 2011 at 2:00 PM Fashion Designer, musician, entrepreneur, public speaker and downright cool broad are but a few of the words that describe Brandi Shigley (due with B.Sue tonight at the hi-dive for a triple EP release show). The first time I came in contact with Brandi was in [...]
You can officially download our first EP “Moon Whales”! For those of you that can’t make the EP Release and would like to [...]
Welcome to the land of B.Sue where we provide happy music for the happy heart. A friend from England recently told me that he felt as though my music was Lo-fi, Americana, Twee, French, Indie Pop. Another fellow Denver musician once told me that B.Sue reminds him of a mix of Serge Gainsbourg meets My Bloody Valentine. I'm not sure how to classify our music but I can say that I am truly happy to be able to share my musical ideas with you.
