We’re excited to play a show tomorrow night at the Starz Film Center as we open for the showing of French film:

OSS 117 : Lost in Rio

Joins us for music and a movie and some of B.Sue’s French songs

FREE SHOW and $7.00 if you want to see the movie!

France, 2009, 101 Minute Running Time
Genre/Subjects: Comedy, Detective/Mystery, Foreign, Thriller
Language: French English Sub-Titles

FREE performance by B. SUE in Henderson’s Lounge from 9:15 – 9:45pm on Friday April 27th!

Plays Friday & Saturday, April 27 & 28 at the Denver FilmCenter
35mm presentation - He’s France’s top agent, Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath (the fabulous Jean Dujardin), better known as OSS 117, agent double-one-seven (or “one seventeen” as he would have it). Suave yet clueless, a cross between James Bond and Austin Powers, OSS 117 is back for another mission, following his smash debut in OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies. Dispatched to Rio to purchase an incriminating microfilm containing the names of French WWII collaborators from a Nazi in hiding (Rüdiger Vogler), he teams up with a beautiful Mossad colonel (Louise Monot)—after first mistaking her for the secretary—whose mini skirt and kinky boots disguise dangerously forward-thinking views on women’s lib and world politics. Along the way they encounter the Nazi’s hippie son Heinrich, a C.I.A. agent named Trumendous, and a man-eating alligator. Masked Mexican wrestler bodyguards, not to mention pesky Chinese hitmen after agent 117 for a past grievance, make matters irksome. Lost in Rio culminates in a North By Northwest-meets-Vertigo sequence on Rio’s famous Christ the Redeemer statue overlooking the city that you won’t want to miss!

B.Sue + Beats Noir= Infectious Beats and Smiles at Rooster and Moon!

Caffeine, alcohol and music lovers alike are uniting for a night of no work and all play when Golden Triangle hot spot The Rooster and Moon hosts a music show—featuring Golden Triangle business owner Brandi Shigley with her band, B.Sue, and longtime friend JT Nolan‘s band, Beats Noir. This musical combination of infectious beats and smiles happens Saturday, April 7. All ages are welcome to show up at 7 p.m., when the doors open, for the 8 o’clock show for only $5.

“Dull” will definitely not be a descriptor for the evening, as the bands bring a fun and personality to the coffee/pub. The joint will offer an intimate setting to hear some of Denver’s sweetest sounds and interact with the musicians. “The Rooster and Moon has always supported my creative endeavors and when Nate asked if I wanted to play “I said HECK YES!” says Brandi.

“I saw an opportunity to bring music to the community space that Rooster and Moon has become. The Golden Triangle deserves a venue where Denver’s songwriters and artists can come together and do what they do best.” says Nate Meese, barista at Rooster and Moon, formerly of the band, Meese, and currently of the band, The Centennial.

Brandi will be bringing along her longtime friend (and guitar teacher) JT Nolan and his music project Beats Noir, which was nominated into the finals of KTCL’s 93.3 2011 Hometown for the Holidays for their first single “Castaways” and ended the year with a sold out NYE show at Dazzle Jazz Club.

“It is an honor to play with my longtime friend B. Diddy,” says JT.

B. Sue is going to keep things interesting, as always, by switching it up and playing a Casio Keytar and debuting Brandi’s guitar skills (which, admittedly, are a work-in-progress). She’ll also be covering a couple punk classics added to her repertoire of happy-poppy-indie-rock. The DJ is none other than Beats Noir’s own drummer Dave Miller, aka “The Orchid Set.”

B.Sue has been around for about 4 years, and is Brandi’s way “of getting the musical side out of me. It’s a nice break from thinking about entrepreneurial endeavors,” she says. Fun fact: B.Sue doubles as Brandi’s name, Brandi Sue, and the French word meaning “to kiss,” bisous.

To hear Brandi, JT, and more creative and funky local bands, stop by The Rooster and Moon on April 7 at 7 p.m. to treat your ears and get your groove on!

Instead of getting frusterated, I’m just going to be patient and have a pro help me get my home studio set up. Sometimes I just want to figure everything out on my own, but it’s okay that I don’t know everything

I’m so inspired to work on the jazz set! That’s all that I want to focus on. B.Sue sings jazz!!!

Today has been a lovely relaxing Sunday. Although the sun has set early, inside is full of sunshine and inspiration.

But now I want to make it a much bigger way by having a set and even recording “B.Sue plays the classics, a night of jazz.”

I’d love to perform:
-All of me
-The Devil in the deep blue sea
-That old black magic
-My future just passed

And then some 1950′s jazz/ pop / doo wop
- Teach me tonight
- To know him is to love him
- I’m want to sit right down and write myself a letter
-Teach me tonight

2 songs that inspired me on the way back from the Avalanche hockey game tonight….

Harry Connick Jr’s version of All of me. I love the trombone and trumpet and Harry’s voice. Timeless.

and this rendition of Devil in the deep blue sea by the Belleville Outfit (whom I’ve never heard of but love their cover of this song).

I am super inspired right now. Going to make it happen.

It’s been snowing like crazy and it looks like the snow is finally letting up. I stayed home and worked and was surprisingly productive given that I wouldn’t have minded being snuggled up on the couch drinking hot chocolate all day long. I listened to jazz, mostly female vocalists of the 1940′s and 50′s (one of my huge inspirations), and diligently worked on project plans and client work. It’ll be fun to step outside of work and party and sing tonight!!

This weekend, I spent a lot of time organizing our home and spending time in my music zone. As I was organizing all of my instruments, it dawned on me that I’ve really been neglecting music making! I seem to go in spurts with making music and I suppose that maybe life has been a little to busy running the business side of things, that I’ve neglected this side of my brain.

Well! I’m almost ready to get back into the music again and get my studio all set up so I can write new music, record ideas, and put these instruments to use!

In my ShigLab 5000: 2 keyboards (the Casio on the right is what I play the most. The one on the left is a Hohner Clavinet D6, a vintage piece that we’re going to sell for James’ extremely talented music making brother. In the background you will see from left to right, a red kid’s electric guitar, my Casio SK-1 keyboard that I bought for $2.00 at the swap meet, my Yamaha keytar, and my electric guitar. I’m slowly learning to play the guitar and like playing the electric because it’s just easier for my fingers. However, I’ve been practicing a lot on the acoustic. What you don’t see that’s not set up is my M-Audio & condenser mic. When I get to recording some new things, I’ll set that back up.

Well! There you have it. My home studio

I remember being 10 or 11 and I was grounded and not allowed to go to Skate City for the school party. I was furious. That night, my dad would play his old 45′s for me while I skated around and around and around our basement. It was better than any skate party at Skate City.

I have a fondness for songs from the late 50′s early 60′s. I remember being a little girl, sitting in my dad’s red pickup, vinyl seats sticking to my skin, and singing along to the old radio with the big buttons that you push in to change.

This song triggered this trip down memory lane. I love how music does that to you.
